About your instructor:

Yuming Griffin Liu is a visual artist, sculptor, and art educator. He was born into religious turmoil in Communist China due to his family’s religious involvement. His nomadic upbringing across China and eventually across the globe grants him a unique perspective. Along with this nomadic life experience, the constant contradicting voices from family, governments, and institutions—each claiming its own justification—made solitude and sorrow the undertone of all his creative works. From two-dimensional photography to three-dimensional sculptures, large installations to small miniatures, Liu’s journey as a visual artist relentlessly dives into bureaucracy, religion, and human connection through the lens of poetic surrealism. Liu earned his BA from Kenyon College as a Studio Art major and is currently pursuing his MFA while teaching at the University of Notre Dame. www.bygriffinliu.com

About this class:

Each student will complete a finished miniature room scene by the end of the six-week course. The class will be beginner-friendly and very hands-on. Your instructor will guide students step by step, with demonstrations and work time each session. By the end of the class, students will gain the skills to use the materials and tools to work independently. All materials needed for the class will be provided.

Studio Space:

Students enrolled in this class are eligible to partake in one additional open studio session (instructor not present) per week during the span of the eight-week workshop. This works out to be 8 instructor-led sessions and 8 open studio sessions. The Open Studio sessions coincide with our regular business hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays-noon to 9 pm; Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays- noon to 5 pm.

Class Schedule:

Each week would focus on a different part of the build:
