Dakarai Barclay Quartet

TICKETS are $15 General/$6 Student. Concert is one long set. End time is approximately 9:00 pm.

The set features all original compositions celebrating the lives of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Sonny Rollins. Band personnel include Elio Wijaya on piano, Carmani Edwards on bass, and Christian Hindratno on drums. Dakarai Barclay is a Chicago-based trumpeter, educator, and 2025 Luminarts Jazz Fellowship recipient.

This quartet will feature compositions from the hard bop tradition and a selection of original compositions influenced from that period.

Dakarai Barclay is a trumpeter and educator from Chicago, Illinois. Dakarai has had the ultimate privilege of performing with mentors and elder musicians such as Willerm Delisfort, Winard Harper, Jarrard Harris, Ernest Dawkins, Marlene Rosenburg, and many more. Dakarai attained his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and later a graduate degree from William Paterson University in northern New Jersey. Currently, he is on faculty teaching jazz trumpet at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, and is a 2025 Luminarts Jazz Fellowship recipient.

Peter Garofalo is a jazz pianist based in Chicago, Illinois. Originally from Milwaukee, his style is rooted in the rich lineage of Milwaukee pianists, blending a deep respect for the tradition with a personal voice. Prior to relocating to Chicago in 2020, Peter was active in the jazz scenes in Madison as a student at UW–Madison and Louisville, Kentucky for a handful years after graduating. Today, he performs regularly throughout Chicago and Milwaukee, appearing in clubs, concerts, and private events with a variety of ensembles.

Kevin Gunawan is an Indonesian jazz bassist based in Chicago, Illinois. Originally from Surabaya, Indonesia, he is an active performer on the Chicago jazz scene, appearing at various jazz festivals, clubs, and concert venues. Kevin has collaborated with musicians from diverse backgrounds and styles.

Christian William Hindratno is an Indonesian drummer. He started playing drums at a very young age. He moved to Chicago 2 years ago and has been playing music in Chicago’s Jazz scene. He’s studying with a lot of great drummers such as Paul Wertico and Joe Farnsworth.
