  • Four Michiana businesses reached the quarterfinals of the Coolest Thing Made IN Indiana tournament as local voters will cast ballots until Wednesday, Jan. 7 to decide the state's coolest product.   • A Marian High School graduate from Michiana will chant gospel at the Vatican’s Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord during an upcoming mass, linking local faith with a global celebration.  WNDU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The library kicked off its annual Winter Reading Challenge with a party featuring arts and crafts, a puppet show and a game room — where participants earn small prizes for reading in various formats — and the challenge runs until March 2 with prize redemption starting Monday, Jan. 5.  WNDU
  • Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library kicked off its annual Winter Reading Challenge on Jan. 2 — inviting community members to join reading activities and win prizes at the library.  WNDU
  • Lawmakers will debate new education policies next week as they consider a full-day cellphone ban, more STEM support, and measures to boost reading skills in schools. Bills must be filed by Jan. 9 + Jan. 14, with talks also covering school funding and operations for rural districts.  InkFreeNews

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Jan. 2 at Lincoln Junior High in Plymouth, Penn won the IHSAA girls wrestling sectional title despite junior Amani Reed's injury. Forty-eight wrestlers from 13 schools advanced to the regional meet on Jan. 10, with top finishers moving on to state finals on Jan. 16.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame football reassigned Al Washington as linebackers coach on Jan. 2 after Max Bullough departed to fill a gap on the defense. Washington (41) brings experience from Ohio State, Michigan and Elon to strengthen the pass rush.  South Bend Tribune
  • During Friday’s game, Notre Dame coach Micah Shrewsberry lost his cool after a disputed call led to a late free throw that gave Cal the win; team staff quickly restrained him after the final horn.  South Bend Tribune

    Long time administrator who passed away recently from heart attack will be honored this Friday Night. Coach Mike Lightfoot former Head Coach at Bethel will share at half time of the Goshen- Mishawaka boys basketball game. I scholarship fund is being launched in Mr Troyers name for a Mishawaka student to receive to attend Bethel University
