  • Local leaders host the 40th annual MLK Day celebration on Monday, Jan. 19 with a Community Service Recognition Breakfast (7:30-9:15 a.m.) featuring a keynote from Timothy Lake at Century Center. A memorial march will follow from 11:30 a.m. till noon starting at the County-City Building.  South Bend Tribune

  • Monday, Jan. 19 will mark the 40th observance of Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday in Mishawaka, where organizers host a community breakfast, march and workshop and offer local vendor information — honoring Dr. King’s legacy through volunteerism.  WSBT

  • Indiana BMVs will offer a new pollinator specialty license plate later in 2026. Auburn native Lisa Conrad spent five years designing the plate & collecting over 1,200 signatures, with proceeds supporting pollinator conservation through Pollinator Partnership.  95.3 MNC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts warn that shelf ice along Lake Michigan appears solid but hides cracks and voids, making it highly dangerous. Officials advise local residents to avoid walking on it, as even a day of warm weather might trigger sudden ice shifts — creating risky, unpredictable conditions.  South Bend Tribune

  • South Bend, including Mishawaka and nearby communities, is ranked number seven on Zillow’s 2025 list due to affordable housing, growing job opportunities (at sites like AWS and GM), and local amenities such as parks and trails.     Long time administrator who passed away recently from heart attack will be honored this Friday Night. Coach Mike Lightfoot former Head Coach at Bethel will share at half time of the Goshen- Mishawaka boys basketball game. I scholarship fund is being launched in Mr Troyers name for a Mishawaka student to receive to attend Bethel University
