  • Six dogs from Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group in Elkhart County will compete in Puppy Bowl 22 when it airs on the same day as the Super Bowl – a fun event for local animal lovers.  WNDU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Jan. 7, the Senate education committee approved an amended bill to ban student cellphone use during school hours while allowing exceptions for documented medical needs. The measure now heads to the full Senate for a vote that could change public school policies in Mishawaka.  InkFreeNews
  • Travel + Leisure named the University of Notre Dame among the 30 most beautiful campuses in the US. It was the only Indiana school on the list and is known for its Gothic Revival, Second Empire and Neoclassical architecture.  South Bend Tribune

  • Mariah Roberts, a watershed manager for the Watershed Foundation, will join the 21st Annual Indiana Watershed Leadership Academy with a scholarship from the Indiana Lakes Management Society to boost her skills in water science+ leadership through workshops and virtual sessions that support Upper Tippecanoe River protection.  InkFreeNews

  • Seniors can file Form SC-40 online via Revenue’s INTIME system starting in 2026 for a tax break. To qualify, they must be 65 or older, earn under $10k, and reside in the state for at least six months; the credit is up to $100 (or $140 for couples).  95.3 MNC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local hospitals report an increase in positive flu tests, though fewer patients are hospitalized than in recent weeks, according to Beacon Health System physician Dr. Jason Marker. He advises people with flu symptoms to call their health care providers, stay home if possible, and keep surfaces clean.  WVPE
  • Dustin’s Place has partnered with South Bend schools to launch Mental Health Thursdays for grieving teens. The program will offer counseling sessions at local schools starting this week.  WNDU
  • The University of Notre Dame and Northwestern are launching a three-year mental health project to boost care for local youth. The program will train 75 providers and offer in-person and digital support (using evidence-based methods) throughout St. Joseph County.  Michiana Business News

    Long time administrator who passed away recently from heart attack will be honored this Friday Night. Coach Mike Lightfoot former Head Coach at Bethel will share at half time of the Goshen- Mishawaka boys basketball game. I scholarship fund is being launched in Mr Troyers name for a Mishawaka student to receive to attend Bethel University
