  • City of Mishawaka supports the 35th Annual Human Rights Awareness & Awards Luncheon by the South Bend Human Rights Commission. It will be held Thursday, April 30 at the Palais Royale in downtown South Bend (free workshops run 8:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. before the luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.).  City of Mishawaka

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mishawaka donated four lots for the Building Trades Program to let high school students build single-family homes with the guidance of construction experts + the move overcomes the area’s land shortage for hands-on learning.  Michiana Business News
  • A 4th-grade assignment at Pinewood Elementary asked students to write from the perspective of a white student expressing dislike toward a Black student based on skin color. The school said the task, which referenced Ruby Bridges, did not follow district rules and has been addressed.  95.3 MNC

FINANCE NEWS

  • AAA Federal Credit Union merged with Credit Union 1 in August to provide members with enhanced technology & broader branch access; customers received new debit card details with a Nov. 10 deadline. The change, approved at a June board meeting, united AAA members with CU1 to improve their financial services.  Michiana Business News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NIPSCO President Vince Parisi addressed rising utility bills on Friday as he explained that higher gas rates, a colder winter and increased delivery fees have led customers to question charges. The utility will improve communication with customers & data center costs will not be added to bills.  WNDU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Due to winter storms and seasonal illnesses, Parkview Regional Medical Center faces a critical need for blood donations (including whole blood, plasma, and platelets) to support life-saving treatments in Mishawaka.
