  • Camp Millhouse will host its 36th annual ‘A Night for Our Stars’ dinner and auction on Saturday, March 14 at Sts. Peter and Paul Social Hall in South Bend — a fundraiser offering dinner at 6:30 p.m. and a silent auction starting Friday, March 13.  WNDU

  • The St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board approved a contract with Sky Dine to manage concessions at South Bend International Airport effective June 1, bringing new dining options such as a full-service restaurant featuring The Lauber; construction for Jimmy John’s and Dunkin’ spaces is set to begin soon + services will continue uninterrupted during the transition.  InkFreeNews

  • Authorities investigated a threatening Snapchat message seen by a student that warned Schmucker Middle School would be shot up, and extra officers were on campus on Wednesday + measures aimed to protect students and staff.  WSBT

  • Researchers at Notre Dame say a new eagle egg lies beneath its mother at St. Patrick's County Park and observers can watch from a pavilion at nearby LEEF Park; the hatchlings are expected in about a month as scientists study the eagles+ diet and growth.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Mishawaka announced a $1.5M upgrade to George Wilson Park’s tubing hill with synthetic turf for year-round skiing and snowboarding. The new construction will include four 300-foot lanes — some with tunnels, lighting and a misting system — with work set to finish next year.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Notre Dame today announced the establishment of the Reisenauer Institute for Rare Diseases following a generous gift from Dave and Cathleen Reisenauer. The new institute combines research with patient advocacy to boost care and education, and the College of Science is beginning an international search for its first director.  InkFreeNews

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lou Holtz (the Notre Dame coach who led the 1988 national championship) died on Wednesday, March 4 at age 89. His legacy in college football continues to inspire former players in our community.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame women’s basketball starts ACC Tournament play today as a No. 5 seed and experts say the team (which won five of its last games) could move up on Selection Sunday if it continues its strong run.  South Bend Tribune
