  • Severe weather on March 30 caused explosions on Cedar Road and power lines to fall, and 911 calls went unanswered so a Mishawaka resident drove to the Penn Township Fire Department (to report a house fire) where fire crews (after repeated call failures) later responded.  South Bend Tribune

  • The latest IREAD3 scores show that 82% of third graders passed in 2024, but scores remain below pre-pandemic levels—especially for special education students, English learners and low-income children. Indiana plans to boost literacy with early learning programs, free-book initiatives and a $9.5M grant to raise proficiency to 95% by 2027.  95.3 MNC

  • Today, Strawberry Road is closed from State Road 2 to Gordon Road for reconstruction—drivers in St. Joseph County must use alternate routes. No set date has been given for when the road will reopen.  WSBT
