  • A former church collapsed Saturday morning leaving its structure in ruins while officials blocked the area — including a neighboring house — for cleanup and accountability measures.  WSBT
  • Happy Tails Grooming Salon (in Niles Township) confirmed a dog died in its care on Mar. 30 and said it is reviewing safety protocols as it investigates the incident.  WNDU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Potawatomi Zoo reopened this weekend for the new season and welcomes families with the Zoo Express train & endangered species carousel. An electric CP Huntington train debuted with support from Indiana Michigan Power Foundation and Zoo Luminate begins on Earth Day, Apr. 22.  WNDU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bristol Street will begin construction in April and run in phases until November to improve safety by adding a wider roadway, sidewalks, and a multi-use path (with a detour between Jeanwood Drive and County Road 15).  95.3 MNC
  • St. Joseph County commissioners approved a $915,000 animal control contract with the Humane Society for the rest of 2026 on Monday as the nonprofit delays a vehicle purchase and plans staff and facility upgrades. It will rely on donations (including a trivia night on May 2) to cover extra costs.  WVPE

  • South Bend native Suntana Anderson was named NAIA Coach of the Year after leading Marian University to a women’s basketball national championship this season. She previously excelled at Riley High School as a two-time NIC Player of the Year.  WNDU

  • Marian High’s basketball program is facing major changes after coach Robb Berger (19 seasons) was fired last week, and former players Jaden Ivey and Demetrius Jackson now face setbacks in their professional careers.
