Two Mishawaka teachers were surprised with teacher of the year awards on Friday morning.

Patrick Hahn, a science teacher at Mishawaka High School, received the Secondary Teacher of the Year award while Nicole Ewing, a first-grade teacher at LaSalle Elementary School, earned the Elementary Teacher of the Year honor.

Indiana lawmakers are working to wrap up property tax relief proposals before Tuesday, April 29th as Gov. Mike Braun pushes his campaign promise—legislators are discussing three different plans and the House Ways and Means Committee will soon consider an amendment that could lower most homeowners' tax bills.

On April 4, lawmakers narrowly approved a bill that would require school board candidates to list their political party on the ballot.

The bill now returns to the Senate and if it passes, school elections will become partisan — joining a few states that use party designations.

South Bend-based Beacon Health System signed an agreement to acquire Ascension Healthcare System in southwest Michigan this summer (adding four hospitals, 35 outpatient clinics and an ambulatory surgery center) and will expand its network to serve more patients in the region.
