CRIME NEWS

  • Zamale Davis, a 30-year-old man from South Bend, was charged with two felony counts after he used a drone to smuggle drugs and contraband into Westville Correctional Facility last Thursday night and police seized several items including marijuana and cell phones while setting his bond at $15,000.  WNDU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana schools risk losing about $40 million in state and federal funds for internet connectivity after proposed budget cuts and a Supreme Court case threaten the money needed for classroom tech—lawmakers must decide by April 10 whether to restore a $3.4 million state grant that helps rural districts upgrade slow connections.  InkFreeNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Major construction will begin next Monday, April 14 on the Main Street Bridge over the Toll Road in Mishawaka and will require closing the northbound lanes; drivers are urged to use a detour via Grape Road, Douglas Road and University Drive as the project continues through mid to late October.  WNDU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fairfield High School tennis coach Mike Filbrun was inducted into the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame in February and gave a speech despite feeling nervous for weeks before the event. He thanked his players, assistant coaches, and family (including his father who coached with him for 27 seasons) and credited the school district's upgrade from six to 10 courts for the program's growth.  InkFreeNews
  • Jaylen Sneed, a fourth-year linebacker for Notre Dame, has boosted his performance this spring by adding extra weight and gaining more explosiveness, a shift his coaches credit with transforming his play plus setting him up for a stronger role going forward.  South Bend Tribune
