  • On Saturday, April 20, the Humane Society of St. Joseph County held a free microchip clinic at its Grape Road shelter in Mishawaka from 10 a.m. to noon where dogs and cats received 24PetWatch microchips. The service was free though a $10 donation was encouraged—supplies were limited and provided on a first come, first served basis.  WNDU

  • During April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Beth White from the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault said that three in five women and one in four men in Indiana will face sexual assault in their lifetime, and most assaults occur between people who know each other which makes many victims stay silent for fear of blame.  95.3 MNC

  • Senate Bill 461 passed last week and will head to the governor’s desk to update rules for the Indiana Grain Buyers and Warehouse Licensing Agency—its changes follow needed reforms sparked by lawsuits and were developed in collaboration since last June.  95.3 MNC

  • A rise in autism diagnoses in Indiana has renewed debate over how the condition is defined and studied since about one in 59 children are diagnosed compared to one in 31 nationally. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the agency will study potential environmental factors within five months while advocates stress the need for evidence-based research that includes the autism community.  95.3 MNC
