  • Mishawaka Parks and Recreation announced it will break ground on Indiana's first Miracle Field in July so those with disabilities can safely play baseball and other sports + the foundation celebrated raising over $1.6 million for Phase 1 fundraising and will seek another $1.8 million for additional park enhancements.  95.3 MNC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Federal funding cuts ended NEH grants for Indiana Humanities, which in 2024 supported 127 local organizations with over $317,000 in grants and program support+ local libraries, museums, and community festivals lost funds that helped foster civic engagement and local history education. Community programs that relied on these funds are now facing reduced resources and fewer events to connect residents.  South Bend Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mark Evans from Purdue Extension in Elkhart County said cool-season plants such as radishes, peas — and cabbage can grow even if there is a light frost in spring. He explained that warm-season crops like tomatoes and green beans need warmer weather and are more sensitive to cold.  ABC57

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge in Indianapolis ruled that a temporary restraining order will not keep the visas active for seven international students whose U.S. visas were canceled by DHS earlier this month—judging that the students from Purdue, Indiana University of Indianapolis, and Notre Dame did not show irreparable harm. The students must now indicate individually how they will be damaged by Friday, April 25.  InkFreeNews
  • At a ceremony Tuesday in Indianapolis, Indiana State Police honored Trooper Matthew Drudge and Trooper John Streeter from the Bremen Post for their strong enforcement efforts and community work. Senior Trooper Brian Robbins was also recognized for lifesaving actions during a Mishawaka crash on Aug. 18, where officers rescued a driver from a burning vehicle (the driver survived).  ABC57
