ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local environmental groups warn that the EPA's proposal to relax coal ash cleanup rules may put Indiana water quality at risk. The agency opened a 60-day comment period, with webinars on April 15 and 16 and a public hearing scheduled for May 28.  InkFreeNews
  • Severe storms with high winds caused power outages for 35,000 customers on April 27 across the area; local utilities are working to restore service as soon as possible.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood and City Clerk Debbie Ladyga-Block announced that the Workers Memorial Ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at the Ball Band Memorial — if rain occurs, the event will shift to Mishawaka City Hall Council Chambers at 100 Lincoln Way West.  City of Mishawaka

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Gurley Leep Automotive is building a 70-acre automall on Cleveland Road and Capital Avenue in Mishawaka, consolidating its locations and adding features like a car wash and dog park. The project will complete next year with grand openings planned from late June to October before the company's 50th anniversary.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame football wrapped up spring practice on April 25 with a blue-gold game that saw a narrow win sealed by Spencer Porath’s 43-yard field goal+ drawing a record crowd, and the team is now preparing for a long season as it aims for a national championship.  South Bend Tribune
