  • The Mishawaka Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the annual Summer Concert Series from June 4th to August 27th at three local venues. Monday concerts will be held at Battell Park Bandshell from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.—Wednesdays at Ball Band Biergarten from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Thursdays at Central Park Stage from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. offer live music for all ages.  City of Mishawaka
  • The Hometown Heroes Banner Program honors veterans and military personnel in Mishawaka by displaying banners on city lampposts from Memorial Day to Veterans Day—Mike Whittaker and Mike Miller installed the banners and residents may call 574-258-1601 for more details.  City of Mishawaka

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Thousands of families are visiting South Bend for graduation weekend as hotels reach 27% higher bookings than last year—local businesses see a boost in revenue. Saint Mary’s graduation takes place today with a commencement mass at 5 p.m., and Notre Dame’s ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Sunday.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 15th at 6:30 p.m., the City of Mishawaka and the Mishawaka Fraternal Order of Police held their annual memorial ceremony at City Hall Council Chambers to honor fallen officers. The event united families, friends and community members (Patrolman Clarence Casper, Corporal Thomas Roberts, Patrolman Bryan Verkler, Corporal James Szuba and his K-9 Ricky) on Peace Officers Memorial Day.  City of Mishawaka
  • City officials announced that construction on the Mishawaka Avenue streetscape project will begin May 19 and restrict traffic until the end of September; the project, which has been in the works for six years, will add new sidewalks, curbs and lighting—improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.  South Bend Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • Developers are converting Heritage Point, a former assisted living building in Mishawaka, into an addiction treatment center to meet growing recovery needs. The new center will offer 60 in-patient beds—12 for detox and 48 for longer-term care—and become the second of its kind in Indiana after Columbus opened a similar facility.  95.3 MNC
