The Veterans of Foreign Wars will host their annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26th at 9:30 a.m. along Main and Third in Mishawaka—parade members will travel north on Main then west on Mishawaka Avenue to end at the corner of Mishawaka and Forest with a ceremony honoring veterans.

The Balmer family of Mishawaka plans to honor Special Agent Ryan Balmer’s sacrifice during Memorial Day weekend by sharing memories of his service as a loadmaster and special agent before he died from an IED in 2007.

They will keep his memory alive with fundraisers supporting military nonprofits and a memorial at Battell Park—helping the community remember his legacy.

Gov. Mike Braun signed a new truancy law that expands oversight and support to middle and high school students with repeated unexcused absences.

The law, which will take effect on July 1, will require schools to meet with families to develop attendance plans and will allow county prosecutors to help connect students with counseling—while the department of education will publish annual data on excused absences.
