EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation offers a $2,000 scholarship for Indiana residents with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases; applications are accepted through June 1 to support students and various educational paths—sponsored by Busey Bank in honor of Andrew “Sparky” Seever.  South Bend Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation will offer free guided canoe and kayak tours of the wetlands at Between the Lakes this June. Morning tours are set for 9-11 a.m. on June 4 and 18 and evening tours for 6-8 p.m. on June 11 and 25, with participants learning about wetland history and ecology.  InkFreeNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Dave Wood will host the first Front Porch Friday of 2026 on June 5th from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the front porch of the Mishawaka Utilities Business Office at 107 North Main Street (residents are invited to share ideas for city improvements).  City of Mishawaka
  • Mishawaka and Byrkit Avenues were closed starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday near Club Bouleva to ease local traffic and keep the area safe. The city recommended alternate routes for drivers.  WSBT
  • Transpo is planning service changes that include shortening Mishawaka’s Route 1 and eliminating the low-ridership Route 14 on Sample Street to cut operating costs. A public open house is scheduled for Wednesday, Jun. 10 at the St. Joseph County Public Library for community input before final board review.  WVPE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Shawn Lyght made history by winning the Tewaaraton Award as the first Notre Dame defender to earn the honor since 2016 on Thursday, May 28 in Washington, D.C.  South Bend Tribune
  • Mishawaka Marian won the IHSAA baseball sectional game against John Glenn as senior Ryne O’Hara and junior Isaac Gill shared their views on the game; the win boosts the team as they prepare for the next round.  South Bend Tribune
