Volunteers broke ground for Habitat for Humanity’s Muffet McGraw Women Build to start building a two-story home with a basement and garage.

Homeowner Isela Guzman earned her place with sweat equity and homeownership classes, and local groups like Everwise Credit Union joined the effort — the house will be finished this fall.

The Mishawaka Department of Parks and Recreation will hold its annual Community Yard Sale event at Battell Community Center this Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., where 35 families will sell gently used items (table registration is available online) and admission is free.

The South Bend Regional Chamber will host its annual Golf Classic on June 9 at Knollwood Country Club in Granger—sponsored by Elkhart-based Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center.

Participants will enjoy 18 holes of golf, contests, prizes, and food and drink, with breakfast at 9 a.m. and tee-off at 10 a.m.

Donated vintage Aircoupes from Athens, Michigan were moved by Tom's Towing to the Mishawaka Pilots Club, where high school students in STAY Indiana’s aviation program will restore and eventually fly the aircraft—providing them hands-on experience in aircraft mechanics and pilot training.

Since February 24, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department began a traffic safety crackdown near State Road 2 — U.S. 20 after community complaints, making over 920 stops, issuing more than 260 citations, and carrying out several arrests while also recovering stolen property and serving warrants. The operation aims to improve roadway safety in the area.

Yesterday, the St. Joseph County Police Department said that their comfort dog Sheriff Bruno died after aggressive cancer spread and officers are working on final service details—plans for his cremation will be announced soon.

Thursday the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and Four Winds Casinos hosted an event at South Bend Country Club where Beacon Children’s Hospital said it will use proceeds to buy NICU2Home by AngelEye Health—a tool that helps families in the NICU.

The 14th Four Winds Invitational will be held from Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 3 and volunteer help is needed for many roles.
