CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday in Granger, SJCPD responded to at least five reports of unlocked vehicles being ransacked—one car was stolen after keys were left inside, and officers remind drivers to lock their doors and secure valuables.  ABC57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue Global Law School graduates became the first non-ABA accredited students to pass the Indiana bar exam after the Supreme Court changed the rules to allow them to take the test. On Tuesday, May 20, five graduates—led by environmental health manager Lindley Jarrett—took the oath and now plan to practice law in our state.  InkFreeNews
  • Starting June 9, the South Bend Community School Corporation will launch its Summer Discovery Kitchen program to provide free breakfast and lunch to children and teens until August 1. Partnering with Chartwells K12, the program will also offer fun activities—like musical chairs and relay races—at local schools and parks.  ABC57

  • Residents near Amazon Web Services and General Motors projects in New Carlisle are concerned about lower water levels in their wells as the state investigates the effects of dewatering practices. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The St. Joseph County Assessor will hold a property tax town hall on Saturday at the County-City Building in downtown South Bend with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. and the event running from 10 a.m. to noon on the 4th floor of the Council Chambers. Residents will have a chance to ask questions about property assessments, filing appeals, and rising property taxes.  WSBT
  • Officials in Colorado, Indiana, Minnesota, California, Michigan and North Carolina warned residents about text scams alleging to be from the DMV—messages that threaten penalties like losing vehicle registration—while urging people not to click links or reply. Residents should report any suspicious texts using trusted contact methods as DMVs do not send such messages.  South Bend Tribune
