COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The St. Joseph County 4-H Fair kicked off Friday afternoon to mark its 100th year and runs daily until July 5 at the fairgrounds (5117 Ironwood Road) with gates opening at 7 a.m., rides available after 2 p.m., carnival games, and livestock exhibitions. EDUCATION NEWS

  • On June 24, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled in favor of South Bend Community School Corporation—reversing a $600,000 jury award to former teacher Connie Grabowski in her wrongful termination case after her resignation followed a disputed incident.  ABC57

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Mishawaka hosts its annual Independence Day celebration with live music kicking off at 6:00 p.m. and a fireworks display set for 10:00 p.m. The Cedar Street Bridge is open only for emergency vehicles—pedestrians are not allowed due to ongoing construction and it will close to all traffic on Sunday.  City of Mishawaka
  • County officials confirmed that work on the Main Street bridge is halfway done after finishing the northbound lanes, and starting Tuesday morning the crew will close the southbound lanes to divert traffic along Fir Road — University Drive and Douglas Road. They said the southbound construction is expected to take 2 to 3 months.  WSBT

  • Memorial Hospital now offers needleless blood draws that use a device attached to IV catheters+ the new system collects fresh blood to reduce extra needle sticks, and it is the first in the state and second in the country to offer the technology.  WSBT
