  • Cyclists in the Cops Cycling for Survivors event rode in South Bend Friday as part of a nearly 1,000-mile ride through Indiana — they will stop at police stations along the route to honor fallen officers. The ride started Monday in Plainfield and will end in Indianapolis on July 19.  WSBT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new restaurant will soon open at the former Oaken Bucket site and will offer menu items such as burgers, steak, chicken, and ribs, according to manager Steve Stidham.  WNDU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mishawaka's Hums Elementary School changed its mascot from the Roadrunners to the Huskies after surveys with students, parents, and staff; the new mascot, named Freddy in honor of longtime board president Fred J. Hums, was approved on July 9. The board also set plans to replace the old facility and may update the school colors to green and black or navy blue.  South Bend Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. Ryan Mishler, R-Mishawaka, will serve as chair of the State Budget Committee for two years and the Medicaid Oversight Committee for one year. Lawmakers will meet over the summer and fall to review approved topics—focusing on budget priorities and fiscal responsibility.  InkFreeNews
