  • St. Joseph County CASA needs volunteer advocates to help children in foster care who have experienced abuse and neglect. The final training session will begin September 2 and run for six weeks (meetings are held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays) at the Juvenile Justice Center in South Bend.  South Bend Tribune

  • After 50 years in leadership, Chris Murphy III will step down as CEO of 1st Source Corp on October 1+ he will remain as executive chairman. Andrea Short will take on the roles of CEO and president of the company while Kevin Murphy becomes president of the bank.  Michiana Business News

CRIME NEWS

  • Police activity closed Bittersweet Road northbound between Day and Douglas Roads yesterday after a warrant was served for an outside agency + officers have since reopened the road for both directions.  WSBT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Taylorville, an unofficial Taylor Swift tribute band, will perform at Ironworks Plaza in Mishawaka this Friday night with food trucks, friendship bracelets, selfie areas and glow items. Gates open at 7 p.m. and the band starts at 8 p.m.—tickets cost $10 for adults (free for children 5 or under) and Sun King Brewery serves guests 21 and over.  WNDU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Shore Line is working with St. Joseph County and South Bend to secure local funding needed to match a potential $56M federal grant for a $112M project that will create a shorter train route to the airport. Earlier this year, the state committed $28M and the Transportation District added $6M—private partners have also shown interest as the project prepares its next federal funding application this fall.  WVPE
  • Construction on part of Riverside Drive is underway—city officials said it is 60% complete. They added it will be finished in November.  WNDU
