- ➤ The westbound ramp from the Bypass to Bremen Highway closed Monday near the Meijer on Mishawaka’s south side while crews replaced a small structure. A detour directs drivers to US-31 and Michigan Street — work is expected to finish early October — which may slow travel times this summer. WSBT
- ➤ The City of Mishawaka will host Slide the Hill from August 8th to 11th at George Wilson Park on 2605 Clover Rd, where four 300-foot inflatable slip-n-slides will run in six sessions and cost $7 per person. Participants must pre-register and bring their own inflatable pool tube—onsite tubes are available for $8 when supplies last. City of Mishawaka
- ➤ Today, police across Mishawaka, South Bend, Elkhart, Buchanan, and St. Joseph host National Night Out with free food, popsicles, games, and community activities—while from Aug. 4 to 10, family-friendly events such as film festivals, classic car cruises, EnviroFest, HannaFest, auto mania, a garage sale, art beats, and a back-to-school rally bring local culture and fun to several nearby communities. - ➤ Former South Bend pastor Geoffrey Carter pleaded guilty to child exploitation and sexual battery charges after a 17-year-old reported abuse last year+ court records show cameras in his home captured inappropriate behavior involving the minor. WNDU
- ➤ 53-year-old Donald Simpson II was arrested for allegedly shooting his 48-year-old brother in South Bend last week+ he faces charges including aggravated battery, battery by means of a deadly weapon, and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon after officers arrived at 11:40 p.m. Friday and the victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ash Road between Inwood and Jackson Road was closed starting Monday for pipe installation along the St. Joseph and Elkhart County line—drivers have used detours since the work began and a reopening date has not been set. WSBT

- ➤ Today, the St. Joseph County Department of Health mobile unit is at John Young Middle School from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.—it will also be at Charles Black Community Center on August 9th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Kroc Center on August 13th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Four Winds Field on August 16th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with caregivers asked to bring a copy of their child's immunization record and insurance card even though insurance is not required.
