  • Pearl is a three-year-old pet at the South Bend Animal Resource Center who has lived there for a few months—her 25 lb frame and pearl-like ears charm visitors as she warms up to new faces.  WSBT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On August 9, a speeding car plunged into the St. Joseph River at the dead end of Vistula and Beech Roads and both occupants escaped unharmed—police arrested the driver for DUI, minor consuming alcohol, and operating without a license while the passenger received a citation.  95.3 MNC

SPORTS NEWS

  • In exactly 21 days the Notre Dame football team will open its 2025 season against the Miami Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Labor Day. The Fighting Irish, 2.5 point favorites, hope to build on last year's playoff win at the stadium and avoid a repeat of a 2017 loss to Miami.  WNDU
  • The South Bend Cubs pushed themselves into playoff contention after a win over Fort Wayne on August 10 and strong homestand play that brought them within two games of Beloit. The team will face the Sky Carp in a six-game series starting Tuesday, Aug. 12 — a move fueled by standout performances including a breakout month by catcher Ariel Armas.  South Bend Tribune
