EDUCATION NEWS

  • School City of Mishawaka has board approved a new Hums Elementary that will break ground in September and open in August 2027—as the district expands its program—while a new agriculture program led by teacher Jake Crawford brings hands-on horticulture classes to students with city support.  WNDU
  • The Indiana Department of Education released 2025 IREAD-3 data showing an unprecedented increase in 3rd grade reading skills statewide with 87.3% of students passing the test. Local schools in Mishawaka saw a 10-point rise to 88.4% compared to 2024—while South Bend and Elkhart schools also reported significant improvements.  WSBT
  • Today in Mishawaka, city agencies including police and fire worked with the School City of Mishawaka on the 'Cool Your Engines' initiative to remind drivers to slow down near schools as children walk safely.
