  • La Casa de Amistad has asked the public to nominate Latino individuals who have made a big impact on the community—nomination forms will be accepted through Saturday and winners will be honored on Sept. 23 at a city-sponsored event.  WVPE
  • During Hunger Action Month, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana said food insecurity has reached its highest rate in over a decade and urged community members to help by organizing food drives, donating money, and volunteering, with Hunger Action Day on Sept. 9 when South Bend’s River Lights will turn orange—showing support for those in need.  InkFreeNews

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, September 1—St. Joseph County Police arrested 31 year old Kevin Brazier at the Baymont Hotel in Roseland after a woman said he confined her in a hotel room and forced her into prostitution; investigators said Brazier met her on Facebook, confiscated her phone, and posted an online advertisement for prostitution while officers later found a firearm and suspected marijuana in the room.  95.3 MNC

  • Grammy-award winner Zach Bryan, joined by Shane Gillis and Dermot Kennedy, will perform today at Notre Dame Stadium at 7 p.m. Parking opens at 12 p.m. and extra police will manage traffic with home-game protocols—roads may be one way or closed.  WNDU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Neighbors gathered Thursday night at Kennedy Park to hear city officials share updated renderings and confirm plans to install a pool instead of a splash pad after community input—Councilperson Ophelia Gooden-Rodgers noted the park always featured a pool. Construction will begin by mid-spring next year with funding from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.  95.3 MNC

  • Kadyn O'Neal rushed for 280 yards on 37 carries to lead Mishawaka to a 38-34 win over Concord at Steele Stadium on Friday night—Mishawaka now stands 3-0 while Concord falls to 2-1.  South Bend Tribune
  • High school football in the South Bend area is lively today as Indiana teams begin Week 3 play and Michigan teams start Week 2 action—Concord faces Mishawaka while Penn High meets Riley Wildcats among several local matchups.
