  • On Sept. 10, about 80 Indiana war veterans flew from Fort Wayne to Washington, D.C. on Honor Flight 52. Veteran Charlie Garner Sr. — a 102-year-old from Syracuse — recalled his World War II service, including his time on Omaha Beach, and visited memorials where local lawmakers honored his sacrifice.  WNDU
  • The City of Mishawaka is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Miracle League Park at Normain Park on September 24th at 4:00pm—leaders, donors and local advocates will join families as they dig the first shovelfuls of soil to mark the start of an accessible park with an inclusive playground, splash pad and more.   • Bethel University was awarded a $200K matching grant from a local foundation to renovate, upgrade and expand its nursing, biology and chemistry labs — matching an additional $200K for a $400K project that will add new simulation models, lab equipment, safety improvements and classroom technology for its top-ranked nursing program.  InkFreeNews
  • Mishawaka High School is hosting its 4th Annual Job, Career and College Fair today from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in 'The Cave'—juniors and seniors can meet more than 20 local employers, colleges and nonprofits and attend seminars on financial topics and college planning.  ABC57

  • The Mishawaka Common Council will hold an executive session on Friday, September 24 at 1:00 p.m. in the Board of Public Works Conference Room at City Hall, 100 Lincolnway West to discuss the FOP Strategy related to Collective Bargaining.   • The Mishawaka Common Council will hold an executive session regarding FOP collective bargaining at City Hall (Board of Public Works Conference Room, 100 Lincolnway West) on October 9 at 1:00 p.m., with additional sessions on October 13 and October 24; individuals needing ADA services must request these 48 hours ahead.  City of Mishawaka
  • St. Joseph County Redevelopment Commission approved $80,000 for extra traffic patrols at the Amazon data center construction site after the county spent Amazon's $120,000 funding faster than expected—county economic development director Bill Schalliol said he will ask for more funds from Amazon in upcoming negotiations.  WVPE

  • Doctors warned yesterday that fall allergies worsened in Michiana due to ragweed and white mold and warm weather that extended the season; they advised using over-the-counter remedies like antihistamines+nasal sprays or visiting a doctor for more serious breathing issues.  WVPE
