COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, community members donated pop tabs at the United Federal Credit Union Edison Lakes Branch in Mishawaka to support Ronald McDonald House Charities, which uses the funds to help families with children at Beacon Children's Hospital. The third annual Pop Tab Palooza raised funds that will benefit local families—recycling aluminum tabs from a drive-thru event.  WNDU
  • Hunger Action Month has increased the need for food assistance in South Bend as local charities report more residents seeking help. The Food Bank of Northern Indiana said its South Bend pantry saw a 24 percent rise in households served while the St. Augustine Soup Kitchen experienced a jump from 60 to 100 Monday visits—showing financial challenges for local families.  South Bend Tribune
  • A local woman urged the railroad company to fix the rough train tracks on Jefferson Boulevard—drivers have noted constant bumps and groaning sounds while passing. The repair work has not been scheduled, leaving local motorists concerned about the ride.  WNDU

  • Melissa Rekeweg has been named president and CEO of Agribusiness Council of Indiana and will start her role in October—she replaces Bruce Kettler who left in July. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mishawaka Budget & Finance Committee will meet Tuesday, September 30 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall—discussing Proposed Ordinance 2025-26 to amend wastewater rates and charges; individuals needing ADA accommodations must request services 48 hours prior.  City of Mishawaka
  • Today, the St. Joseph County Council postponed its vote to rezone land near New Carlisle for a proposed data center amid local concerns over traffic, water, and electricity usage—members will revisit the issue at the next committee meeting in October.  WSBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame used the Wildcat formation in its loss to Texas A&M—gaining 19 yards on seven plays—and running back Jeremiyah Love said he will use his passing ability for touchdowns when the team faces unranked Arkansas.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame now has one win and two losses and will face Arkansas in Fayetteville Saturday. Running backs Love and Price scored six touchdowns against Purdue and earned a spot on the Doak Walker Award watch list — even as the defense gave up 71 points in two games.  ABC57
