- ➤ A home on West 9th Street in Mishawaka has grown its Halloween display over three years, now featuring a 12-foot skeleton and handmade pieces mostly bought on sale. The homeowner said the project helps with personal challenges and will host a toy drive for the Ronald McDonald House in early October—bringing joy to the community. 95.3 MNC
- ➤ 100 Black Men of Greater South Bend will host their annual gala on Nov. 1—at Four Winds Casino in South Bend, bringing local community members together. WNDU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Covenant Christian won a grant from Martin’s Super Markets that will supply new Chromebooks for its new high school—devices that will support students and teachers with classroom tasks. The laptops are expected to boost technology access as the school begins classes. WNDU
- ➤ Bethel University will hold its 36th annual campus-wide Service Day today at 9 a.m. at Everest-Rohrer Chapel, with students, faculty, and staff set to serve at 25 sites across Michiana (including the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, Ronald McDonald House, and Unity Gardens). All classes before 6 p.m. are cancelled so everyone can take part. 95.3 MNC
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Since early June, farmers in parts of Michiana have seen dry conditions affect pumpkin planting and growth. They said that less water early reduced blooms and more drought later made pumpkins smaller — a change that could also make them more vulnerable to pests. ABC57

- ➤ Mishawaka Utilities has kept water, wastewater, electric, and trash services affordable even as wastewater rates will increase 3.75% annually over the next five years.
