COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Meals with Muffet food drive ended this past weekend—collecting over 20,182 pounds of food as local communities joined the fight against hunger. The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is still accepting donations and volunteers to help feed families.  WNDU
  • South Bend Police will hold their biggest outreach event, Cops and Goblins, on Tuesday, October 28 at Four Winds Field; four families can win a Quick Pass by donating to the SBPD Food Pantry until October 8—winners will be drawn on October 14.  95.3 MNC
  • Today, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana will host a drive-through mobile food distribution event at Knox United Methodist Church in Starke County from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT while serving 150 households — additional distributions throughout October will offer free prepackaged food at sites in counties including St. Joseph, Kosciusko, Marshall, and La Porte.  95.3 MNC

CRIME NEWS

  • Jimtown Park was vandalized when two windows were broken—Park President Jake McAllister said repairs will cost about $1,000 while the park, which serves over 300 kids and 150 families, awaits a fix to its security cameras and urges neighbors to report any suspicious activity.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • American Legion Post 284 donated over $4,000 in new protective gear to the St. Joseph County Police Department’s K-9 officers—Bullet, Rowdy, and Roxy will soon receive protective vests to keep them safe.  WNDU
  • Judge Ashley Colborn resigned from St. Joseph County Probate Court after a verbal clash with Judge Zappia following the firing of a court administrator on Monday. The resignation adds to recent courtroom troubles and may impact future case scheduling in the community.  WNDU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kelly Ratigan, a South Bend native who played at Loyola, transferred to Notre Dame to pursue her lifelong basketball dream after a knee injury shortened her season & she received a life-changing call from head coach Niele Ivey that now brings her closer to home and sets her on a path to play on the court she always supported.  South Bend Tribune
  • Penn High School senior Scarlett Biever was named NIC MVP and South Bend Saint Joseph coach Dan Mentock earned NIC Coach of the Year honors in girls golf this fall—Biever helped her team finish second while Mentock led his squad to the league title.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame redshirt freshman quarterback CJ Carr put on a strong performance last Saturday when he threw four touchdowns with no interceptions against Arkansas, and head coach Marcus Freeman said his rare competitive spirit set him apart. The Fighting Irish will host Boise State this Saturday at 3:30 p.m.  WNDU
