  • Officials held a ribbon cutting on Oct. 7 to mark the opening of the new Women’s Care Center in Mishawaka— a facility that offers no-cost support and confidential care for women and families. Local leaders and partners celebrated the expanded space, which features private consultation rooms, ultrasound services and flexible education areas, as a lasting commitment to community well-being.  Michiana Business News

CRIME NEWS

  • A vigil was held at the Grand Blanc High School football field to honor four victims of a targeted church shooting and another will be held tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mishawaka — all faiths are welcome.  ABC57

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At John Young Middle School in Mishawaka, a nine-week reading acceleration class gives extra help to students who nearly passed ILEARN—teacher Jennifer Vargo uses one-on-one and small group sessions to target each student's needs. Principal Rebecca Cummings said the school uses test data to shape the program as state leaders work to improve middle school literacy.  WSBT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MISHAWAKA officials announced that NIPSCO will restrict the westbound lane on W. McKinley Avenue between Miracle Lane and Benton Street for emergency gas main repairs starting today at 7 a.m.—more timeline details will follow as officials gather additional information.  ABC57

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at Notre Dame have partnered with Beacon Health to run a pilot program that gives new mothers regular check-ups and education for one year after their baby is born. The program, which is open to 104 patients from OB-GYN offices in St. Joseph, Elkhart and Marshall Counties, teaches mothers to spot warning signs of complications — a method that previously lowered stress and depression in a trial.  WSBT
  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana is hosting Trivia Night for a Cause on Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. at Elks Lodge #235 — the event features a Hollywood Red Carpet theme and will raise funds for caregiver support.  WNDU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame football improved its record to 3-2 and moved to No. 16 in the AP poll after a three-game win streak — running back Jeremiyah Love recorded 398 yards and 7 touchdowns. They will host NC State at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.  WNDU
  • Edwardsburg High School’s equestrian team was given a heartfelt send off on Oct. 8 as they head to state finals — the team now prepares to compete at the upcoming event.  WNDU
