  • At the Indiana Dinosaur Museum’s Harvest Fest weekend, visitors rode tractors to a pumpkin patch, sipped hot apple cider and shopped a Goodwill pop-up store for affordable costumes and decorations while supporting local programs—organizers said the event was a hit. Harvest Fest will continue next weekend with hayrides, pumpkin carving, face painting and fall treats.  WNDU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana’s chronic absenteeism improved for the third year even though nearly one in three high school seniors still misses school—state Rep. Craig Snow supported Senate Enrolled Act 482 to focus on parental engagement and intervention while state Rep. Hunter Smith plans diploma reforms to offer more hands-on learning options.  95.3 MNC
  • Chris Lowery ended his time as Indiana’s Higher Education Commissioner today and said new reforms have improved college access—these include a historic two-year tuition and fee freeze and automatic enrollment for low-income students that boosted in-state enrollment, the largest jump since 2010.  95.3 MNC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Road 23 between Mill Street in North Liberty and Renewable Road in South Bend will be reduced to one lane in each direction for median reconstruction and pavement patching — work is expected to continue until the end of November.  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials said highly pathogenic avian influenza was found on duck farms in LaGrange and nearly Elkhart counties and that they will monitor dairy farms by collecting milk samples—this step aims to stop the virus from spreading among local herds via migratory birds.  95.3 MNC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The IHSAA has announced football sectional pairings for local schools, with sectional play beginning Oct. 24 for classes 1A-4A and Oct. 31 for classes 5A-6A — later rounds will include regionals on Nov. 14, semifinals on Nov. 21 and state finals on Thanksgiving weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium.  WNDU
  • The Notre Dame Fighting Irish jumped to No. 13 with a 36-7 win over NC State while the Indiana Hoosiers climbed to their highest ranking ever at No. 3 after a 30-20 win over Oregon—key victories that set up big games ahead. Notre Dame will host USC—while the Hoosiers will welcome Michigan State in upcoming contests.  WNDU
  • The Notre Dame football team won 36-7 against NC State on Saturday to secure a four-game win streak — after a slow first half, they will try to win their fifth game when they face rival USC next Saturday.  WNDU
