EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ After state funding cuts forced some child care centers to close and left many families on waiting lists, Let’s Grow St. Joe is asking local employers to help fund equipment, supplies and furniture for care providers—this fund aims to strengthen the local workforce. The group already received $100,000 from the Redevelopment Commission and another $100,000 from the Assante Foundation—further support is expected to boost care provider resources. WVPE
- ➤ Indiana families now can fill out the FAFSA online to apply for grants, loans and scholarships—Bill Wozniak of INvestEd urged families to file early since state deadlines come before federal ones. - ➤ Crews on State Road 23 have reduced traffic to one lane each way at the US-20/31 Bypass for median reconstruction — alternating lane closures continue between Mill Street in North Liberty and the Bypass, with work scheduled to end through November. 95.3 MNC
- ➤ The final phase of the Wall Street Streetscape Project will begin Monday as construction shifts to Wall Street between Ceasar Chaves and Ironwood Drives—new curbs, sidewalks, a median refuge island for pedestrian crossing, and repaving will occur, and the street will remain closed until the end of October with a detour via Mishawaka Avenue, Jefferson Boulevard, and Twyckenham Drive. Drivers can access Potawatomi Zoo using Twyckenham Drive or Greenlawn Avenue during the closure. ABC57
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State officials confirmed new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza at a duck farm in LaGrange County with over 2,600 ducks under quarantine and at a farm in Elkhart County with more than 3,500 ducks from cases on October 11th and October 12th — marking Indiana’s first outbreak since June. A 10-kilometer control area and 20-kilometer surveillance zone have been established around the sites to test nearby flocks for further virus spread. InkFreeNews

- ➤ Notre Dame and USC will play their last scheduled game this Saturday because their contract ends after the match+ leaving the long-time rivalry uncertain. Both teams are gearing up for the game+ and future matchups are not currently planned. WNDU
