After state funding cuts forced some child care centers to close and left many families on waiting lists, Let’s Grow St. Joe is asking local employers to help fund equipment, supplies and furniture for care providers—this fund aims to strengthen the local workforce.

The group already received $100,000 from the Redevelopment Commission and another $100,000 from the Assante Foundation—further support is expected to boost care provider resources.

State officials confirmed new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza at a duck farm in LaGrange County with over 2,600 ducks under quarantine and at a farm in Elkhart County with more than 3,500 ducks from cases on October 11th and October 12th — marking Indiana’s first outbreak since June. A 10-kilometer control area and 20-kilometer surveillance zone have been established around the sites to test nearby flocks for further virus spread.
