  • Beacon Resource Center is hosting its Second Chance Job & Resource Fair on Thursday at its former Beacon Bowl facility near South Bend International Airport to help match skilled trades workers reentering the community after prison with employers amid a local construction boom — the event will also offer guidance on housing, health care, education and legal services.  WVPE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WalletHub released a list of the top 30 colleges and universities in the U.S. and Notre Dame ranked 18th behind the University of Chicago, while Princeton topped the list and 800 schools were assessed using 30 measures over seven categories.  95.3 MNC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Tuesday night’s council meeting, residents from St. Joseph County voiced concerns over a proposed data center near New Carlisle, saying it could strain water use and electricity demands + change agricultural land. No vote was taken on the project, and the council will revisit the issue on October 28.  WNDU
  • During Tuesday's St. Joseph Common Council meeting, officials unanimously passed a resolution to honor Fire Marshal David Cherrone — the longest-serving fire department member whose sudden passing in August shocked residents. His cherished service, including returning after retirement to support his fire family, reinforces his lasting legacy in the community.  WNDU
  • At a council meeting on Oct. 14, local officials honored the late Clay Fire Marshal Dave Cherrone by recognizing his service and dedication to public safety * his legacy was celebrated for the impact he made in the community.  WNDU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Notre Dame’s offense is stronger in the second half—Burton averaged 23.5 points per game last season and Hidalgo earned ACC Preseason Player of the Year honors.
