  • Geminus Community Partners for Child Safety opened its new office in South Bend on Thursday with a ribbon cutting—councilmembers and local residents attended the event. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Northern Indiana Public Service Company announced on Oct. 15 that natural gas heating bills will be 16% higher this winter with the average customer using 625 therms expected to pay about $665 over the five-month season. The release states customers with financial difficulties have several assistance programs available — including flexible payment plans and LIHEAP support.  InkFreeNews

  • Beacon Health System and the University of Notre Dame announced a multiyear research partnership to develop health research projects in oncology and data — with Notre Dame leading the research and Beacon providing clinical care to support community health.  Michiana Business News

  • Brady Stevens played in an exhibition game Friday at Hinkle Fieldhouse where he hit key free throws to lift the Irish to a 77—76 win over Butler. His father—Brad Stevens—watched as Brady returned to the court he grew up on.  South Bend Tribune
  • Three South Bend area high school football teams entered Week 9 unbeaten as the final regular season games were played on October 17. A key contest between Penn and South Bend Saint Joseph at Father Bly Field set the stage for a close finish—intensifying local competition.  South Bend Tribune
  • Notre Dame women's basketball begins its 2025-26 season with a retooled lineup as many new players and six transfers join a few returning veterans like Hannah Hidalgo + KK Bransford.   • Penn High School football clinched the Northern Indiana Conference title after defeating Saint Joseph 38-6 on Friday at Father Bly Field in Leighton Stadium—junior quarterback Landon Hall led a strong effort that included a key interception by senior John White.
