- ➤ Local chefs, students, and restaurants will compete at the 27th Annual Michiana Chili Cook-Off at Ironworks Plaza in Mishawaka on Oct. 26 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.—with proceeds set to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Indiana and the local ACF chapter—and attendees able to enjoy live music, unlimited chili samples, and a silent auction. 95.3 MNC

- ➤ Indiana Michigan Power will start a $266 million upgrade project in 2027 to rebuild 68 miles of high-voltage lines from New Carlisle to Reynolds — a plan that will strengthen the grid in St. Joseph, LaPorte, Starke, Pulaski and White counties. Construction will begin in winter 2027 and finish by spring 2031 — replacing 1950s-era equipment with modern lattice towers to meet growing energy needs. 95.3 MNC

- ➤ NIPSCO forecasts that heating bills will rise about 16% this winter, and customers using 625 therms may see a bill of about $665 (roughly $90 more than last winter). - ➤ The new Cleveland and Beech Road roundabout in northeastern St. Joseph County is open after months of construction that cost about $3.5 million—preliminary work has begun on converting the four-way stop at Douglas and Bittersweet Roads with no start date set. WSBT
