Iota Phi Theta Fraternity held its fourth annual Community Turkey Giveaway at Frankie’s BBQ in South Bend on Saturday morning, distributing 500 turkeys with support from the Washington High School football team, Councilwoman Ophelia Gooden-Rodgers, and Aetna Health Care — organizers hope to give away even more next year.

National Family Caregivers Month honors helpers of loved ones with Alzheimer’s and dementia—over 219,000 Indiana caregivers give 325 million hours of free care each year.

Local volunteer Marty Posch, who began caring for his mother in 2008, now sits on the Alzheimer’s Association board and urges caregivers to look after themselves—he stresses that sharing support eases the heavy work of care.
