  • Holiday shoppers in Michiana are buying gifts early because rising prices and economic concerns are making people budget carefully—local stores have noted more early purchases as residents get ready for the season.  WNDU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Visit South Bend Mishawaka — which now controls the nearly 50-year-old Century Center — plans updates to keep it open for weddings, conventions and events. Although the 2045 Master Plan calls for demolishing the North Wing — an element officials plan to rethink — they say the changes will help attract more visitors downtown.  95.3 MNC
  • The South Shore Line secured local funds totaling part of the $112 million needed to create a shorter route to South Bend International Airport and is now seeking a federal match while design work is finished—environmental review awaits final FAA input. A new station site in New Carlisle on U.S. 20 was approved to improve access, with local developers already planning nearby housing.  WVPE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Joselyn Gonzalez, a local teen diagnosed with end-stage renal failure, needed a kidney transplant after doctors at Riley Children’s Hospital recommended lifesaving surgery and her family sought help to cover the high treatment costs.
