EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Notre Dame will join UC Riverside and Harvard University to study civics education by launching the Civic Impact Project. The project will get $600,000 in grants to create new ways to measure K-12 learning. Michiana Business News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Mayflower Road bridge will remain closed as crews delayed patching repairs due to cold weather, with county engineer Sky Medors expecting it to reopen mid next week. The bridge will close again in spring for a two-week permanent fix. WSBT
- ➤ NICTD will apply for a federal grant by Jan. 7 to fund a $112 million realignment of the South Shore Line near the airport, which will cut travel time between Chicago and South Bend by 15 minutes. - ➤ The intersection of Vistula Road and Oakland Avenue in Mishawaka is now open after being closed since mid-August for improvements as part of the CSO-20 project (detour routes have been removed). WNDU

- ➤ Warming centers across Michiana opened as temperatures dropped into single digits and wind chills fell below zero. Residents are urged to call ahead (hours vary) and check on vulnerable neighbors while the cold persists. WVPE
