- ➤ Indiana Pork partnered with the South Bend Cubs and the Food Bank of Northern Indiana on Tuesday to donate over 2,000 pork meals to families in need this holiday season. The effort follows a successful event at Smokie Joe’s concession — which sold 566 meals in June. WNDU
- ➤ The Potawatomi Zoo set a new record on Dec. 9 when it welcomed its 400,000th visitor. The Kosmenko family received free admission, attraction pass, and gift card while zoo officials credited new habitats and events with nearly doubling attendance since 2019. 95.3 MNC
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ More than 100 residents were evacuated at 4 a.m. Sunday from Hellenic Senior Living in Elkhart after a pipe burst damaged the electrical panel and 20 units. Residents were moved to sister facilities (including one in Mishawaka) while crews restore power and plan to return residents early next week. WNDU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ LOGAN will launch a program early next year to place trained therapists in St. Joseph County classrooms, providing free developmental screenings, teacher training, and embedded speech, occupational and physical therapy services for children. The initiative aims to support teachers and address classroom challenges. WVPE
- ➤ Purdue Extension in Whitley County is offering resources for small, family farms through its Diversified Farming and Food Systems program — a state-wide virtual training for Beginning Farmers will be held from Jan. 8 to Feb. 26 with registration due by Jan. 5 at a $90 fee. InkFreeNews

- ➤ St. Joseph County Council is voting tonight on a controversial proposal to add a new data center near New Carlisle that would be the county's third amid local concerns over water, power, and land. The Town of New Carlisle and other local bodies oppose the rezoning. WNDU
- ➤ State Senator Andy Zay introduced a bill to designate the breaded tenderloin sandwich as our state sandwich; the bill passed its first reading on Dec. 9 and will take effect on July 1, 2026 (highlighting its basis in Indiana-raised pork). 95.3 MNC
