  • The Northern Indiana Regional Development Authority approved a new arts and culture plan to boost funding and community events in Elkhart, Marshall and St. Joseph counties.   • Mayflower Road Bridge has reopened this week after a delay by county officials. Crews applied a temporary patch due to an issue with an approach (the bridge will close in the spring for about two weeks to finish repairs).  WSBT

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study released on Dec. 10 shows that Indiana’s drug overdose rate stands at 32.41 per 100,000 residents, above the 31.51 national rate, with 1,699 deaths linked to opioids recorded over the past year. Health experts warn that more funding and awareness are needed as the holiday season may bring heightened risks for local communities (including Mishawaka).  95.3 MNC
  • The South Bend Medical Foundation urgently needs O-negative blood to support patients, and local donors are encouraged to help as the foundation continues its drive today.  WNDU

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A dayslong heat outage at Karl King Tower has renewed tenant concerns about longstanding neglect by TreeTop Development in the building where residents & seniors have feared reporting issues. Portage Township Trustee Jason Critchlow said city inspectors visited the 12 story building, but residents still await full heat restoration.  WVPE
