EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, the Penn-Harris-Madison School Board approved administrative changes in Mishawaka—appointing Sean Galiher as chief operating officer and naming Rachel Fry, Gary Gardner, and Lindsay Helman-Cass as principals at three local schools.  WVPE
  • Local livestock owners are urged to adjust feed and shelter to protect cattle, horses and other animals from winter’s freezing temperatures and biting winds.   • Legacy Medical Academy was recognized in a state case study for expanding health care career pathways by integrating pre-nursing coursework into school days.   • Officer Jacob Furlong was sworn in as MPD Patrol Officer First Class on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting. He transfers from San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, served in the Army, and enjoys the outdoors + will serve Mishawaka.  City of Mishawaka
  • A U.S. senator requested records from six investment firms—one of which owns Sun Communities’ local properties—as part of an ongoing probe into mobile home park management that examines rising rents and costs potentially forcing residents to move.  WNDU
  • St. Joseph County Assessor Mike Castellon said state rules under Senate Enrolled Act 1 will cut property tax revenue by 35% if no new development comes, warning that the drop may force cuts to services – including public safety – or push local taxes higher.  WVPE
