If you're hunting for a room Saturday, good luck: nearly every hotel room in Michiana is booked at a premium price for Notre Dame's game against Miami. The squeeze has also priced out some residents who rely on hotels for housing. 's Jeff Jarnecke said short-term rentals are between 95 and 98 percent sold out, and he's never seen that in almost five years on the job.

Jarnecke said a Notre Dame home game averages about $36 million in economic impact, spread across St. Joseph, Elkhart, and La Porte counties. He estimates more than 100,000 fans could come this weekend. The innkeeper's tax dollars St. Joseph County keeps, he said, have gone into places like the Mishawaka Field House, the Potawatomi Zoo, and the Morris Performing Arts Center.
