  • Dismas House will host its annual family picnic at Potato Creek State Park on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The free event will offer food, fun and a chance for people in transition, alumni and family members to connect—vehicle entry fees are $7 for Indiana vehicles and $9 for out-of-state.  WNDU

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 24th, Mishawaka police saw a white Dodge Charger speeding near N Hickory Road and West Edison and stopped it, but the driver Carey Cornelius Kimble III sped away, hit a curb and a garage can, and ran on foot before officers caught him one block from a victim—he now faces charges for resisting law enforcement and is set to appear in court on August 4th.  ABC57

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross launched a billboard campaign (in partnership with five other women's religious groups) to promote gospel values amid recent arrests and aid cuts. The campaign features messages like 'I was hungry and you fed me' on a sign along Lincolnway East (with two additional signs planned for Sample and Michigan Streets in South Bend and Day Road in Mishawaka next month).  WSBT

  • A new analysis from Citizens Action Coalition shows Indiana electric bills jumped 17.5% in one year, adding about $28 a month on average for households statewide. NIPSCO customers saw the highest rate increase—26.7%—while CenterPoint, Duke Energy, AES, and I&M also raised their rates.  InkFreeNews
  • South Bend-Elkhart Regional Partnership has opened a new round of Regional Skills Accelerator grant funds to help advanced industry and manufacturing companies in Elkhart, Marshall and St. Joseph counties upskill their workforces. Companies can receive up to $15,000 per fiscal year ending Tuesday, June 30 with a required 1:1 match while working with authorized training partners—Goshen College, Indiana University South Bend, Ivy Tech or Purdue MEP.  InkFreeNews

  • Governor Mike Braun signed a new law today authored by Representative Jake Teshka to boost math skills among Hoosier students. The law requires math screenings for K—2 students to catch learning gaps early and directs the Department of Education to support teacher training with resources and coaching.  ABC57
